Identified the first genetic variants associated with aging
A person can have 70 years but one body and one’s own cells 50, or vice versa. The first is the chronological age, that in the DNI and is celebrated with cakes and candles.

Now a group of scientists has just identified for the first time, some genetic variants associated with the latter age of humans, a discovery that opens new avenues to investigate some age-related diseases. The researchers, led by Professor Nilesh Samani, Department of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Leicester (UK) carried out an analysis of more than 500,000 genetic variations in the human genome in two European cohorts with 2,917 participants and then verified their findings in 9,492 other participants.
What they have discovered, it is said in the journal Nature Genetics, are some variants, all based around the same gene, the third-that make people who carry them have shorter telomeres. Telomeres are part of the chromosomes and its length is considered a marker of biological age. Shorter, more ‘old’ do to our body.
